What a VAT invoice needs

On top of everything a standard UK invoice needs, a VAT invoice should show your VAT registration number, the rate of VAT charged on each item, the VAT amount, and both the net (pre-VAT) and gross (total) amounts. Invoito adds all of this automatically once VAT is switched on in your business profile.
  • Your VAT registration number, shown on every invoice
  • The VAT rate for each line item - 20% standard, 5% reduced, or 0% zero-rated
  • The VAT amount per line and in total
  • Net subtotal and gross total, clearly separated

Mixed-rate invoices, handled properly

Charging VAT at 20% on labour but supplying a zero-rated item on the same job? Invoito calculates VAT per line rather than applying one rate to the whole invoice, so mixed-rate invoices come out accurate without you doing the maths by hand.

Discounts and VAT together

When you apply a discount, Invoito reduces the net amount first, then calculates VAT on the discounted figure - the standard, HMRC-consistent order of operations. For example, £100 of work with a 10% discount comes to £90 net; VAT at 20% on that £90 is £18, for a total of £108.

What is the difference between an invoice and a VAT invoice?

A standard invoice shows what is owed. A VAT invoice additionally shows your VAT registration number, the VAT rate applied to each item, the VAT amount, and the net and gross totals - required once you are VAT registered.
